Back Country Horsemen Pigeon River & Beyond, Michigan

"Like all building projects it seems the hardest part is the planning phase. Building the foundation is the toughest part. With this analogy in mind I believe the dynamics of how we as equestrians are regarded by the DNR will suddenly and dramatically change. I am overwhelmed by the volume and quality of support that we are receiving. I predict that there will be an explosion of interest at the February 7th meeting and an exponential explosion of growth resulting from it. We are seeking justice in this PRC closure. We can not, must not, and will not fail. What ever it takes, that's our attitude. Never say never. There certainly is strength in numbers and with the latest backing by AQHA (345,000) members; it's a great thing. There has been comments made by some hikers that we should keep trails separate-to some extent we agree with this but, multi use trails are just that-multi use. With the Rails- to-Trails (linear trails) that are being developed across Michigan, very few permit equestrian use. Therefore, we all need to work together. I also agree wholeheartedly that on specific 'hiking trails only ' should be just that! We must be respectful to all!"

The Preserving our Equine Heritage on Public Land Act
No matter what legislation is introduced in the coming months, it will be important for the new Congress to hear from members of the horse industry. This is why the AHC, in cooperation with its member organizations, has launched a new grassroots initiative called the Congressional Cavalry program. All individual horse owners, breeders, veterinarians, trainers, competitors, recreational riders, service providers, or anyone who desire to join the grassroots efforts of the horse community in Washington, are encouraged to join. Through this free program the AHC will let you know when legislation that affects the horse industry is introduced and when and how to contact your members of Congress.
To sign up for this program call the AHC at 202/296-4031.
